GBV Master Trainer Job at American Refugee Committee International in South Sudan

POSITION TITLE: GBV Master Trainer HQ DEPARTMENT or COUNTRY PROGRAM: South Sudan, Malakal, Upper Nile State RESPONSIBLE TO: GBV Program Officer, Malakal STATUS: Full Time SUPERVISORY CAPACITY: national GBV team as trainers
DEPARTMENT/COUNTRY PROGRAM DESCRIPTION/MISSION Operational in Southern Sudan since 1994, ARC implements a multi-sectoral program that includes water and sanitation, primary and reproductive health care, HIV/AIDS and gender based violence prevention and response, and activities geared towards creating economic opportunities for returning populations.
ARC’s South Sudan Gender Based Violence (GBV) program aims to strengthen the quality and accessibility of services for survivors of GBV and reduce incidence of GBV through creative participatory community change activities. ARC is currently implementing GBV prevention and response programming in 8 program sites throughout South Sudan, as well as leading national coordination and advocacy efforts.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Lead facilitation of multi-sectoral response and prevention trainings and mentor national team as facilitators.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In line with ARC International’s GBV programming goals and under the supervision of the GBV Project Manager and the Malakal Field Coordinator, the Master Trainer will be expected to perform the following activities:
Training preparation • Lead mobilization of appropriate participants for each training together with GBV team • Prepare overview for each training using ARC South Sudan GBV training manuals and materials • Identify material, equipment, educational, and other needs for procurement. • Train and mentor ARC national GBV team to facilitate high quality GBV trainings.
Implementation • Act as lead facilitator during trainings • Coordinate logistical support for set up on day(s) of training • Coordinate ARC GBV staff to facilitate and support trainings
Reporting & Follow-up • Compile pretest-post test survey data from trainings and update trained personnel tracking database • Produce narrative report upon the completion of each training/workshop. • In coordination with ARC GBV Project Manager, meet with training participants to assess successes, lessons learned, and future needs for GBV programming.
EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED • Masters Degree in Social Work, Public Health, International Human Rights, Law or other related field. • 2 years experience working on a Protection or GBV prevention project in conflict affected region. • Experience leading capacity building GBV prevention and response projects. • Awareness and knowledge of GBV international best practices including Caring for Survivors of Sexual Violence in Emergencies case management training toolkit, IRC’s Clinical Care of Sexual Assault Survivors Multimedia Toolkit, IASC GBV Guidelines and GBV SOPs • Excellent facilitation skills. • Diplomacy and assertiveness; the ability to confront and discuss sensitive issues with respect. • Good communication skills, with good spoken and written English. Arabic an advantage. • Excellent report writing, research documentation and presentation skills. • Demonstrated experience of monitoring and evaluating projects.
KEY BEHAVIORS & ABILITIES • Ability to live and productively work in insecure, unstable and/or harsh environments. • Must be able to work independently while being a strong team player with proven supervisory skills. • Additional qualities: ability to multitask, ability to handle pressure well, ability to improvise, flexibility, cultural and environmental sensitivity. • Familiar with the issues and cultures in South Sudan; and ability to interact with people at all levels, individually and/or in groups. • Willingness to travel.
