Medical Director Job at LifeNet International in Burundi

LifeNet International (LN) is a not-for-profit organization that creates innovative solutions for the everyday health challenges facing East Africa’s poor.  In 2011, LN launched its Conversion Franchise network for church-based clinics in Burundi, East Africa and will follow-on in 2012 with a Growth Financing fund for health facilities in Burundi and Uganda, and a wholesale pharmaceutical distritibution company in Burundi.  These initiatives are geared toward making a significant, and sustainable impact in health outcomes for the poor.

JOB DESCRIPTION

LN is currently searching for a Medical Director to lead our Conversion Franchise initiative in Burundi.  This person is responsible to deliver a measurable and sustainable impact in the health outcomes of our partner clinics.  We are looking for an extraordinary individual with the drive and ability to grow a small scale project into a nationwide network of significant impact.
Product Development Oversee the development and refinement of the franchise, including health worker training sessions & curriculum, management development, and operational tools
Monitoring & Evaluation Measure clinical performance, using LN’s Quality Scorecard metric, to accurately capture baseline performance and subsequent improvement
Implementation Develop a quarterly clinical growth plan based on operating performance data and implement relevant franchise components to deliver a measurable impact.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong academic background with professional qualifications in health (RN, MPH, MD)
  • 2-4+ years experience in a clinical or public health setting with a proven ability to impact organizational and health outcomes
  • Experience living and working in a developing country
  • French and English fluency (writing and speaking)
  • 2 year minimum commitment

CONVERSION FRANCHISE

After completion of our pilot project in Q2 2011, LN is rapidly expanding our Conversion Franchise network to include 20 clinic partners in Burundi by year-end 2011.  LN aims to increase clinic performance by 50% within the first 12 months of partnership.
Based on findings from our pilot, LN focused its partnerships to church-based clinics as a means to effect systemic and sustainable impact in the Burundian health sector.  LN partners with church -based clinics through a franchising relationship whereby LN delivers training and operating systems and routinely monitors quality of care.  In exchange, the clinical franchisee agrees to implement and uphold LN standards of care.
Through the Conversion Franchise initiative LN aims to create a network of church-based clinic partners providing high quality, affordable health care throughout the country.
